Nurse Practitioner Residency Program

Sam Rodgers’ Nurse Practitioner Residency Program Leads Through Innovation

Last year, Sam Rodgers launched Missouri’s first Nurse Practitioner Residency Program of any Federally Qualified Health Center in the state. This innovative program will be integral to training practitioners in a variety of settings that include everything from pediatrics and women’s health, to adult primary care, behavioral health, and much more. This program also benefits our region by ensuring a steady pipeline of well-trained, culturally responsive healthcare professionals.

Our Mission:

To equip, educate, and support newly graduated Nurse Practitioners through intensive and comprehensive training experiences that create high quality providers competent in complex, culturally appropriate and compassionate healthcare.

Our Vision:

To graduate well-rounded, expert primary care providers who will provide high quality, compassionate and accessible healthcare to the underserved community.

To improve provider and patient satisfaction while fostering collaborative relationships between departments, teams, individuals, and families.

To build future leaders and healthcare advocates within our community that understand the intricate needs of our patient population.

Program Description

The Sam Rodgers Nurse Practitioner Residency Program is a 12-month program that includes:

  • Precepted clinic for residents to build their own patient panels and get experience treating patients.
  • Mentored clinic for residents to focus on particular diagnoses.
  • Specialty rotations for residents to learn about specialty care outside of our healthcare center.

Residents also get training in quality improvement with hands-on experience implementing a QI project of their interest throughout the program.  Residents are supported by residency staff, preceptors, and faculty.

Through partnerships with academic institutions, community health organizations, and outside specialists, the program offers a wide variety of experiences and learning sessions built for residents to transition into practice with ease and support not typically offered outside of post-graduate programs.
